Kids Kayaking at Stokes Stomp: Festival on the Dan

We are excited to be preparing for our 7th year partnering with the Tarheel Paddlers Association (TPA) to offer the Kids Kayaking activity at the Stokes Stomp Festival on the Dan – hosted by the Stokes County Arts Council for over 40 years! This year’s Stomp is September 10 & 11, 2016.

The Kids Kayaking activity is for children under 100 pounds to learn fundamental river kayaking skills through 1-on-1 coaching. Over the past 6 years hundreds of children have been introduced to the fun of kayaking through this program. As you’d expect – the volunteer coaches claim to receive far more than they give with many TPA members returning year after year … and giving up time they would otherwise spend traveling to bigger and more exciting whitewater rivers.

Held at Moratock Park in Danbury, NC, Stokes Stomp is the area’s largest community event featuring local artists, musicians, schools, and businesses … and surrounded by our beloved Dan River. The “Kids Kayaking” activity was established in 2010 as a way to include river activities as part of the festival … and it has been incredibly successful and popular.

A $5 fee to cover insurance allows kids at the Stomp to as many 10-20 minute sessions as volunteer staff time allows.
